Position Summary:

The position of a Utilities Technician has several main responsibilities. The first and foremost responsibility is to operate ammonia refrigeration and utilities safely and efficiently all refrigeration and utilities related equipment in a food manufacturing facility, utilizes fire tube and water tube boilers, Ingersall Rand air compressors, domestic hot water systems, glycol chilling units, HVAC systems, spiral freezers, and other misc. utilities equipment.

Other duties are responding to daily trouble calls from Utilities or Maintenance Team Leaders. Must be able to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot and repair utilities related problems. Will also own an area of responsibility (AOR) where he will be responsible for certain pieces of equipment to ensure PM’s are done within MFR. recommended schedule and keep their equipment in good repair. Will be expected to generate purchase and service requests for equipment in his AOR.  

The successful candidate will be very strong in ammonia systems and have Level A certification or equivalent ammonia trade school training. A CA boiler license is also required within 6 months of hiring. Prior Emergency Response training/ experience a plus. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skill in English. Proficient in use of computer based maintenance programs and Windows based for reporting. Must thrive in a fast paced environment and flexible to work any shift and weekends.  

Requirements:

1.      RETA or equivalent ammonia trade school training

2.      Utilities Technician will be required to obtain/have their CA boiler license within 6 months or hiring.

3.      Must have own hand tools.

4.      Must be able to read mechanical and electrical blue prints.

5.      Knowledge and proficient use of machine shop tools helpful.

6.      Must have excellent verbal and written communication skill in English.

Responsibilities/Skills/Experience Requirements

· Minimum 5 years experience in heavy commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment and systems.

Major Function:    
Provide plant wide maintenance coverage, and to improve the reliability of plant equipment for new and existing utilities systems. Implement methods, practices, or technologies to increase equipment uptime and reduce maintenance costs. The result of effective implementation is to increase equipment uptime and consequently gain greater productivity from capital investments. The position requires technical expertise in the refrigeration (Ammonia) field. This position also requires skills in Commercial HVAC, Steam, Wastewater Treatment, Fire Safety Systems and Compressed Air.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and perform preventive and predictive maintenance work orders to reduce unscheduled equipment failure. Track the levels of preventive maintenance activity to ensure an economic balance and re-evaluate frequencies of preventive maintenance as necessary.
  • Develop "System Responsibility" for a sub-area in the Utilities area that includes documentation of planned work, initiating PM's for new and existing equipment, perform run time Peventive Maintenance, co-ordination of maintenance and reliability work during planned downtime, recommending spare parts and stocking levels, conduct training for technicians.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures to ascertain possible failure modes and participate with engineers, vendors, managers, and maintenance associates to improve equipment reliabiliy
  • Initiate meaningful work requests to troubleshoot, repair and modify plant utilities equipment.
  • Maintain diagnostic abilities, utilize analytical troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis to recommend and implement corrective system improvements.

  • Ability to climb and work in confined spaces as required.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects weighing as much as 80 pounds is required.

  • Certify on the use of SCBA equipment and participate in the plant PEO organization

·    Strong communication skills are needed

 

POSITION:

Responsible for project coordination directly related to refrigeration in the plant.  Lead and perform analysis, design, construction, startup, and operation for ammonia systems.  Acts as an engineering resource for refrigeration maintenance on smaller projects.  Analyze technical problems to derive solutions to improve financial, operations, system performance, and maintainability conditions.  Will be involved with the Preventive Maintenance program.
