Corporate Utility Engineer

 

Function: The role of the Corporate Utility Engineer is manage the plant utility systems, Boilers, Steam, Condensate, Air Compressor, Chilled Water, Ammonia, RO, Water and Hot Water Systems. Experience with Waste Water and HVAC systems a plus. The Utility Engineer will be responsible for two plants and tracking the performance of the plants utility systems and managing continuous improvement of these systems through improved operations and projects.

 

Major Job Activities/Duties:

·         Manage utility equipment and systems in functional, sanitary and safe working condition while meeting all regulatory requirements. Perform safety, GMP, and pre-operational audits.

·         Improve utility efficiencies. identify opportunities and projects to improve plant utility systems improving overall plant performance.

·         Recommend and implement equipment changes and operating procedures.

·         Troubleshoot and provide solutions to plant utility issues to support plant manufacturing goals.

·         Act as technical resources on plant utility systems.

·         Stay up to date and maintain awareness of Federal, State, and Local codes for utility systems.

·         Provide input into technical direction for plant utility systems and design adherence to Company Standards.

·         Provide Engineering and technical services for plant utility systems

·         Assist in selecting and managing equipment suppliers and vendors.

·         Prepare process analysis of new and existing utility systems.

·         Conduct feasibility studies and cost/benefit analysis.

·         Work to involve utility and maintenance team projects for feedback, reviews, and operations of new systems. Set up system to projects with teams.

·         Provide training utility equipment and systems.

 

Job Requirements:

·         Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with relevant work experience.

·         Experience: 5 plus years of work experience in utility operations. Must be very knowledgeable of Boilers, Steam, Condensate, Air Compressor, Chilled Water, Ammonia, RO, Water, Hot Potable Water Systems, Waste Water, and HVAC.

·         Management Skills: Must be successful at working in a team environment.

    Perform all work in full compliance with safety and GMP rules and practices.

    Operate, maintain and install plant support equipment (ammonia refrigeration, boiler, air compressors, wastewater treatment, etc.) and associated systems to ensure efficient operation and compliance with all regulatory and plant standards.

    Preventive maintenance, repairs and minor overhauls on utility and building equipment/services including but not limited to plumbing, air, vacuum systems, filters and HVAC.

    Perform maintenance work as needed on production lines and related equipment.

    Oiling / greasing of all plant equipment, repair, change and/or adjust seals, gaskets, shafts, o-rings, packing material (mechanical parts).

    Troubleshoot, maintain and install facility support equipment to insure proper operation.

    Perform electrical troubleshooting, repairs and installations.

    Minimum Requirements

    -          High school diploma

    -          2 years ammonia refrigeration experience

    -          5 years manufacturing/industrial utilities maintenance experience to include waste water, boilers, sewer.

    -          Boiler, Industrial Waste Water and/or NH3 Refrigeration License/certificate preferred.

    Additional Requirements

    Functional knowledge, experience and ability to safely operate plant ammonia / refrigeration systems.

    Ability to perform work safely and maintain work areas in a manner that does not present a hazard to self or other co-workers.

    Ability to be certified as a HAZWOPER level 1 responder.

    Be clean-shaven or willing to shave as necessary to achieve an acceptable respirator fit.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

Responsible for the monitoring of ammonia system, safety, general maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies of PSM and goals and objectives of Preferred Freezer Services.

Primary Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor entire refrigeration system
    • Check and record all freezer, blast and cooler temperatures
    • Take readings on all screws compressors
    • Take readings on all compressor engines
    • Take readings on diesel generators if running
    • Check all levels of refrigeration vessels
    • Keep PSM Manuals update
  • Do a walk thru of all freezers checking evaporators for ice buildups
  • Evaluate/complete what needs repair from previous night
  • Handle repairs and maintenance on all Crown and LTW cranes, transfer carts & conveyors
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining company truck and spotter
  • Perform regular leak check of entire ammonia refrigeration system
  • Responsible for budgeting capital expenditures for approval by General Manager

·         Recommend and implement equipment changes and operating procedures.

·         Stay up to date and maintain awareness of Federal, State, and Local codes for utility systems.

Job Requirements:

·         Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with relevant work experience.

·         Experience: 5 plus years of work experience in utility operations. Must be very knowledgeable of Boilers, Steam, Condensate, Air Compressor, Chilled Water, Ammonia, RO, Water, Hot Potable Water Systems, Waste Water, and HVAC.

Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and tools, to locate the cause of a problem.

IV.  Skill Required

·        Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of heating/cooling/air and steam systems.  Knowledge of HVAC/ Refrigeration heating/cooling/air and steam systems equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.  Knowledge of the principles, techniques, procedures, equipment, and practical application of engineering.  Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, as used in HVAC and refrigeration systems.

·        RETA certified at the Operator I, II and technician levels.

  • Experience with industrial controls using Allen Bradley and Siemens control platforms (SLC500, ControlLogix, RSLogix,) Motor Controls (Servo and VFD).
