International Industrial Refrigeration Leader will be missed!

Fred Herl was born in 1939 in Cologne, Germany. After finishing his course of studies he entered the M.G. Herl Armaturenfabrik founded by his father, whose owner and managing director he remained until his death.

The company is specialized in manufacturing valves for the industrial refrigeration industry, especially for ammonia refrigeration plants. The expansion of the company by setting up a worldwide distribution was Fred Herl's merit. Since 1992, Herl valves are being marketed via Henry Technologies (www.henrytech.com ) in the U.S.A. and Canada. Fred Herl supported the international extension, where as his special concern was the standardization or adaptation of standards in the field of ammonia refrigeration.

He was one of the initiators of the founding of the European IIAR equivalent EURAMON.  In recognition of his merits, the "Member of the Year Award" was presented to his widow, Madeleine Herl, at the IIAR meeting in Orlando on March 1st, 2004.

Fred Herl deceased on September 25, 2003. He had a great impact in Garden City Ammonia Program  (GCAP) and plans were set in motion with his support and encouragement. GCAP has a  tremendous respect for his contributions to the Ammonia Refrigeration Industry.  Fred believed, as we do, through the commitment on training, where we can enhance the technology, efficiency, safety.  His goal to educate the end users and industrial technicians abilities in the engine rooms for day to day operation.

GCAP is on pace to over exceed our projected number of 585 men and women in our first year of operation. We are proud to promote that our students obtain certification for courses in Operator I, II, and III. The courses are being taught from the RETA books and under IIAR guidelines for the Industry. We also offer a Process Safety Management / Risk Management Plan training program.

The scholarship under Fred Herl’s name will be awarded each year to a student from Germany, as it is our goal to be an "International Technical Training School". You can apply for this scholarship by contacting us for an application

Hap Hagar Scholarship Started

April Preston received the Hagar Scholarship for the 2006 program. We are very proud of her hard work and accomplishments. She Aced the course.  Hagar was Randy Williams first supervisor/maintenance manager, that got him started in the industry. Garden City Ammonia Program will give out a scholarship every year in his memory.

Dear Randy and the Garden City Ammonia Program,

I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated everything that you and Rachel did to help me take your class. I learned a ton (no pun intended) about refrigeration and when I went out to one of our plants a couple days ago understood the system so much better even I couldn’t believe it! It made my job much faster and less room for mistakes. I do apologize for the time it has taken in getting you this letter, I certainly haven’t forgotten about you guys down in the land of OZ. Overall I appreciate the privilege to take the class made possible only because of the scholarship I received. With out it I would not have been able to, and I am very thank full to all those involved who made it possible. I am fighting hard  to get somewhere here at work and will keep doing so, the class and the certificate from RETA  will help me along. God Bless you all, and best of luck to you and your program.

P.S.  Thanks a bunch Randy, I had a great time!

Sincerely,

                April Preston

Great Job! April Preston from the whole class of Operator I in Garden City, Kansas.

April was voted as the class valedictorian, so she had to eat the 3 dip sundae on Thursday to win the points game Randy plays with the class.
