Staff / Experience

Celebrating 45+ years of marriage Randy and Rachel Williams are the owners and entrepreneurs whom began what we call GCAP.  They are both looking to the idea of retirement, but we never want to see them go.  The Williams’ have worked hard to provide a better living for their family and enjoy many things today such as their grandchildren and drag-racing.

Rachel worked through the banking industry and is the office manager at GCAP while Randy started his career in maintenance in the food industry. They both do anything needed to support GCAP.  In the early 80’s Randy owned a contracting company that was geared to support residential / commercial / industrial HVACR applications with specialties in install, service, and troubleshooting.   He sold his contracting company to his employees and went to work for DOE at a site in Texas assisting in the United States weapon program.  After weapons, Randy moved back into refrigeration overseeing 150+ mechanics within the utility/production departments of a hog facility in Oklahoma. In 2000 Randy began teaching at the local community college in Garden City, KS.

The industrial program at GCCC was soon known all across the United States as the premier course to take for industrial refrigeration.  After a few years, the college lost their vision and leadership and Randy resigned in 2003 and started what we call Garden City Ammonia Program or GCAP.  Randy and Rachel purchased a 15,000 square foot building from Harley Davidson and the 18 hour days began and have never stopped.   Today GCAP has over 50,000 square feet of training facility and over 20 staff members along with the most loyal companies in the world allowing us to help serve a small role in their training needs.  We still believe this is a mom and pop company and we welcome you to join.  For more information about Randy please visit this link.

Kristen De La Peña is GCAP’s Director. She is originally from Southeastern Colorado.  Kristen attended college in Northern Colorado and received her Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Aims Community College and then her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Colorado State University.

She moved to Garden City, KS in 2008 and began her career with GCAP. At this time GCAP was strictly teaching ammonia refrigeration courses with only 4 others on staff. Since then Kristen has evolved along with the program expansion after expansion into various different roles in her 17 years with the company.

Today, GCAP offers training courses in industrial ammonia refrigeration, steam boilers, CO2, and process safety compliance. GCAP has grown to service over 950 different companies, training over 3,500 students per year, with 47,000+ certifications worldwide.
